Blockchain is a digital, distributed ledger technology (DLT) that records data in a secure, transparent, and tamper-proof manner. Unlike traditional centralized systems, blockchain operates on a decentralized network of computers (nodes) that share and validate the data collectively. Each piece of information, such as a transaction, is grouped into a block, and these blocks are linked together in chronological order to form a continuous chain.
The technology was first introduced in 2008 as the backbone of Bitcoin, the first cryptocurrency. Since then, blockchain has evolved into a transformative technology with applications far beyond cryptocurrencies.
